German tenor Sebastian Kohlhepp is one of the most widely hailed singers of his generation, much in demand on the international opera and concert scene. Born in Limburg, he received his first musical training at the local boys’ choir. After his studies with Hedwig Fassbender in Frankfurt he was successively engaged as a member of the ensembles in Karlsruhe, Vienna, and Stuttgart. He has been freelancing since the 2017/18 season. Guest appearances have led him to perform at the Salzburg Easter Festival, the Semper Opera House in Dresden, the Theater an der Wien (Vienna), Salzburg Mozart Week, Dutch National Opera Amsterdam, Cologne Opera, Basel State Theatre, Vienna Volksoper, and Opéra Monte Carlo. Kohlhepp has sung under the baton of acclaimed conductors including Christian Thielemann, Adam Fischer, Franz Welser-Möst, Ivor Bolton, René Jacobs, Asher Fisch, Sylvain Cambreling, Peter Schneider, Dan Ettinger, and Jeffrey Tate.


As a concert singer, Sebastian Kohlhepp has performed at all major international venues and festivals, and collaborates with renowned orchestras and ensembles. In 2018 he gave his US début with the Boston Symphony Orchestra under Andris Nelsons. That same year he performed with Teodor Currentzis and his ensemble musicAeterna for the first time at Salzburg Festival. To roll in the year 2020, he was featured live on German television (ZDF) in a concert version of Lehár’s The Land of Smiles in the traditional New Year’s Eve performance with the Staatskapelle Dresden conducted by Christian Thielemann.


Upcoming projects for the 2020/21 season include appearances at the Salzburg Festival (conducted by Ivor Bolton), Beethoven’s Missa Solemnis with Concerto Köln and Kent Nagano, Mozart‘s Magic Flute at Semper Opera House in Dresden, a scenic version of the St Matthew Passion at Deutsche Oper Berlin, and Mozart’s Requiem with the Berlin Philharmonic conducted by Kirill Petrenko at the Baden-Baden Easter Festival. Kohlhepp’s multifarious talents are well on display in a great number of CD, DVD and radio broadcast recordings.
